English II Homework
Remember to read over your Act I notes that we filled out in class. While I am not giving a reading comprehension test overall, I do expect you to understand the key events of the play and who is responsible/contributes to Macbeth's downfall.

Answer these two questions about Scenes 1-5 from Act 1.
•Explain how dialogue develops Lady Macbeth’s character in scene 5. What does Shakespeare want us to understand about her? If you are still confused about Act 1 Scene 5, here is a link to Sparknotes for, as you call it, Modern English. https://www.sparknotes.com/nofear/shakespeare/macbeth/page_30/ •Justify that the witches and Lady Macbeth have or have not influenced Macbeth’s pursuit of kingship. If you did not finish during class or were absent, you were to use the articles on page 89 and pages 90-92 to answer the following narrative writing prompt (remember that a narrative prompt is about using the texts as much as being creative in your response):
•People in King James’s court are concerned with his recent obsession—witches. In a letter to King James I, discuss the issues about his obsession with witchcraft and if they are founded in reality or fantasy. Advise him on the course of action he should take for his country’s sake. Be mindful of the conventions of grammar and spelling . On Monday, we will take all three articles and see what is consistent about witches according to the texts. Then, you will address this in a narrative writing prompt. We will have a pronoun-antecedent test on November 19. Your rough draft is due by 3:15 on November 20. Continue working on your rough draft of your paper. Remember that it is due on November 20 by 3:15. It must be typed and either emailed to me or shared via Google Docs.
Read pages 89-92 in your informational binder. Be sure to write down the main ideas about each article and highlight evidence.
Also, continue working on your rough draft of your paper. Remember that it is due next Tuesday before you leave for Thanksgiving break. Your main priority is your rough draft of your paper. There is no homework tonight.
Parents,
Progress reports will be out on November 13, but you can access your student's grade at any time using the Power School app. With that being said, I want to bring to your attention an issue that is becoming more problematic for me. I have 28 students in class. When I have one student out for a week, it is to be expected that I enter in zeroes for missing work. However, when I have multiple students turning in work a day or even three days late, Power School is not accurate. So, yes, your student may have turned in work, but you must realize when he/she turns it in with another stack of work, I may not address that stack that day I take it up. For example, last week, my main concern was to return your student's essay and note cards so that he/she could see what was going right and what needed improvement. I do not appreciate a student saying "I turned that in" when he/she was late on the assignment that I had already graded. Please talk to your student about turning things in on time and doing assignments completely (not half-way completed). I do have after school tutoring, as I have reiterated all semester, if he/she is still confused. Also, please be considerate of the other 27 students in class and my time. I cannot drop everything to deal with one student when I have multiple students committing the same offense. Over the weekend, complete lesson 58 and Unit 8 review (on the back of Lesson 58) in your pronoun antecedent agreement packet.
Monday is CASE #2 WRITING assessment test. We will be in the library. Tuesday is CASE #2 Multiple choice assessment. We will be in the library again. On Wednesday, we will begin reading informational texts for the Macbeth unit. We will also begin narrative writing review. Narrative writing is the easiest of the three modes of writing. If your student turned in his/her note cards, then he/she must start writing his/her research paper on his/her person. The rough draft is due on November 20. There is no reason for this paper to be late. TWELVE DAYS is sufficient time to write a 1.5-3 page paper on a person. This page count does NOT include the Works Cited page.
I have written on your student's note cards that if he/she did not include proper citation, then he/she will commit plagiarism. It is important that sources and information are properly documented. Without these, the student can be punished for plagiarism. Plagiarism is a serious academic offense: please see the handbook on page 24 for further details. Using the prompt on page 63, fill out the intro paragraph with thesis layout on page 64 in your informational binder. Since you are having problems with intro paragraphs, this is how we will address the situation.
