English II Homework
TNReady is quickly approaching. In two months, your student will begin the testing process. Here is the breakdown of the test's construction according to the TDOE.
Why do they write so much in this class? Writing 25-29% of their test score Why are you teaching so much grammar? It's not like they'll use it. Conventions 7-9% of their test score Do they really have to read that many stories? Literature 25-30% of their test score Do those articles have to be that difficult? Informational text 25-30% of their test score Is all that vocabulary necessary? Unfortunately, yes. Big change this year! Vocabulary 8-12% of their test. Everything I do in this class is geared toward their success on the TNReady and in writing for their future. Please make sure that you are reading outside of class, even if it is re-reading what we read in class. I cannot stress enough that reading frequently and often builds reading fluency. Asking your child questions about the reading helps build reading comprehension. If your child is still having difficulty, as I have stated time and again to them in class, I will stay after school as long as I have a 24 hour notice so that I may make arrangements for my children.
