It may be the spooky season tonight, but don't be caught off guard by the project that is due tomorrow! It will be terrifying if you don't have it completed!

Do not forget to work on your Night project or complete the questions for George Takei's speech.
Don't forge to work on your essay. It can be hand written or typed. As long as I have it in hand, the way it is submitted matters not to me.
Remember that your George Takei's speech is not due until Thursday, Oct. 31. I am much more concerned about your essays than a speech comp/con. Here is your essay prompt for the Genocide articles and Night. This essay is due on Wednesday, October 30.
For the sake of the writing task, pretend that the Holocaust is happening after the United Nations has made their declaration at the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. You have recently read Elie Wiesel’s memoir Night concerning the horrible crimes being committed by the Nazis against the Jews. Use Night, the United Nations document, and the “8 Stages of Genocide” article as the foundation for an argumentative essay declaring that the United Nations must intervene and stop the Nazis’ “acts of genocide.” Use premises from both documents and evidence from Night to form an argument that the Holocaust is indeed genocide and intervention and punishment is warranted according to the UN Convention. Don't forget to answer your questions for the short story on pages 62-65 in your info binder. 1. Explain the author’s purpose for telling the story of the Holocaust using animals. 2. Explain the big rabbit’s statement, “We are the White Rabbits. It couldn’t happen to us. How is this similar to Wiesel’s father on page 6? 3. Little Rabbit hopes someone will listen to him. Compare and contrast this to Moishe the Beadle on page 7. 4. Compare and contrast the author’s use of imagery and symbols and how they aid in the author’s purpose in “Terrible Things” and Night. Make sure that you finish reading Wiesel's Night over the weekend. Also, complete the Genocide articles packet. It will be difficult to do the next argumentative essay without having read these articles and understanding what you will be asked to do.
Continue reading in Night. Read pages 23-28.
Work on filling out your outline for your argumentative essay. The outline is on the last sheet of your packet. We will go over how to write the intro paragraph to this tomorrow. If you did not do so during class, please read pages 3-12 of Night by Elie Wiesel. You do not have to do the questions. We will go over those tomorrow.
We're back! The semester long project is underway. The short story should have been read by now, and we will move onto the other parts.
Due dates--Don't forget about them! Works Cited page--October 15 Note Cards (10 minimum)--October 25 Rough draft of paper--November 15 Final draft of paper w/ the story returned and an updated works cited page--December 10 I will give reminders about due dates, but this is where you have to learn to pace yourself! We will review the events of The Wave, terms associated with literature, and grammar concepts.
