Honors English II Homework
Over the weekend I will look at your rough drafts and leave comments to help you lengthen your paper and organize it better. Don't sweat it! Once you have comments, edit your paper. When the due date comes, you will be required to print the paper and turn in your story and note cards.

Your rough draft of your paper is due tomorrow. If you do not have a computer at home, I expect you to have something written so that you can type it here at school and have it ready for submission by the end of the block.
All documents must be shared with me via Google Docs. I must be able to leave comments. If you do not have enough information in your paper, my job is to help you by giving suggestions in order for your paper to be a better analysis. Don't panic...unless you haven't read or done anything in the past few weeks. You have your note cards in hand. Keep in mind that if I can type the sentence into a search engine, such as Google, and pull up your information word for word or just skipping a word or phrase, then you have plagiarized...even if you have in text citation or parenthetical citation. That is a serious academic offense, both at the high school level and college level. I do not want you to use a lot of direct quotes, but it is not beneath me to type in each sentence to check for plagiarism---this is what the UniCheck plagiarism scanner does for UTM. If you are taking a dual enrollment class next year, your papers will be checked for plagiarism. It is better to learn how NOT to plagiarize than to be caught next year. Use the outline I have given you to create your paper's structure. If the section says a minimum of 1/4 page, then I expect to see that much information. The reason I make you write a short biography about your author is so that you are not tempted to write about your author's life in your term analysis section of your paper. Besides, what does the author's life have to do with how irony is used in a story? Nothing. What does a summary of the story have to do with an analysis of your term? Nothing. Everything has a purpose in this outline, so do not deviate from the structure. Do not use Calibri or Arial font. That is not appropriate academic font. It is also not appropriate to boldface the title and make it a larger sized font. A paper must be uniform in appearance. Therefore, you must have Times New Roman font, sized 12. Do not deviate from this expectation. Below is an example from Honors English III. Though I expect them to tear apart a novel, the same level of expectations applies as far as citing materials and analyzing information. Over the weekend, study your notes on Taming of the Shrew. If you still do not understand, ignorance is not an excuse. You have a plethora of resources available via the Internet. Use them to review over Act I.
Your note cards for your semester paper are due tomorrow.
Your essay on Elie Wiesel's Night is due tomorrow as well. Use your time wisely tonight! |
