Tomorrow, please have your entire essay written neatly so that you may turn it in with your peer review sheet and your first rough draft. I will leave comments on your papers so that you may see what needs improvement. I will check spelling and grammar, so please make sure that you are editing thoroughly.
For homework, please complete page 163 in your info binder and have this ready to turn in at the beginning of class tomorrow. Complete your concluding paragraph. Have your essay ready for peer review tomorrow.
Please read the poem "miss rosie" by Lucille Clifton on page 165. Note any figurative language (simile, metaphor, personification, allusion, alliteration), tone, and character description of Miss Rosie. What does the speaker's voice reveal about Miss Rosie? What does the tone reveal about the speaker? Compare and contrast the two poems. Do they have similar subjects? Do they have similar purposes in their descriptions of the people? Do they use figurative language similarly? You are to complete your other body paragraph over the weekend.
If you are already finished with it, you may go ahead and write your conclusion, though you may finish it Monday night. Use the guiding questions I gave you in class to help you reveal the greater understanding about the theme for these texts. Please complete 11-20 on the prepositions worksheet and 11-20 on the appositives worksheet. We will check answers tomorrow!
Also, write the first body paragraph of your essay tonight. Be mindful of citing evidence, even if you are paraphrasing or summarizing what the poet wrote. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me! I read emails up to 10 pm. Take advantage of this! Tonight, you are responsible for writing the introductory paragraph ONLY. We will work on body paragraph one tomorrow. BREATHE! You can do this. If you are still stuck, please make an appointment with me so that I can stay with you after school. Remember that I need a twenty-four hour notice for after school help.
Finish reading and annotating "Theme for English B" by Langston Hughes tonight. Remember to focus on the diction, tone, and voice. Apply these same concepts to the poem on the other side of your handout, "Ageing Schoolmaster" by Vernon Scannell. We will go over these tomorrow and begin drafting a paper.
Please sign your honors contract. Yes, I know the copies do not have a student print and signature or parent print and signature part. Please add those. I would like them by no later than this Friday.
