English II Homework
Revise your body paragraph #2 with the suggestions your classmates gave during class. Also, make sure you read "The Nymph's Reply" on page 162 to determine her tone and Sir Walter Raleigh's purpose for the poem.

Write a body paragraph about "Sadie and Maude" by Gwendolyn Brooks. Refer back to the example I did with you in class today.
Even though I was not at school today, students were expected to write the body paragraphs of the essay only. It's the same thing we practiced over the weekend and what we have practice during class the last few days. I'm pushing the baby birds out of the nest so to speak.
If you didn't finish the paragraph in class, here are the directions again
Using "I am offering this poem to you" by Baca and "When Giving is all we have" by Rios, create a theme. Then write a paragraph explaining the theme using evidence from the poems. Subject: Giving Theme: (What did you learn about giving?) Paragraph's format: The theme for these poems is (write your theme here). Write two pieces of evidence from Baca's poem to support the theme. Then elaborate about why that evidence fits the theme. Write two pieces of evidence from Rios's poem to support the theme. Then, elaborate about why that evidence fits the theme. Finish the paragraph by using evidence from "Miss Rosie" and adding elaboration about the evidence.
(Topic Sentence) The theme for both of these poems is a person should not live in the past. (Evidence) Flick Webb from "Ex-basketball Player" lives in his past as a record-holding high school athlete. He plays basketball with an inner-tube for a crowd to remind them of what he was. He reminisces about a large cheering crowd as he plays pinball even though the imaginary crowd is truly rows of boxed candy. (Elaboration) Flick is so stuck in his past he cannot get away from home and has no future. **Finish this paragraph by placing evidence about "Miss Rosie" here and explaining. Yes, your student was correct. There was no homework last night or tonight. Expect changes to that tomorrow.
