English II Homework
Typed rough drafts of your superstitions essays are due TODAY. I provided an opportunity yesterday since we were in the library. Each day it is late, 10 points is taken off the assignment. You have known about having this essay completed since LAST FRIDAY. No excuses! Please understand that I will be particular when it comes to citing evidence and elaborating upon said evidence. We have gone over how to address direct and indirect quotes several times, so I should not see as many errors. After I read over the essays, you will go over the comments I have left and make corrections and resubmit for a final grade. Revisions of your draft are due January 25.
On Friday, you will complete the multiple choice/multiple select portion of your test. This is very similar to what we have done in class with our poems. I will use the cube root to score your tests, much like the state uses. On Tuesday, you will complete the essay portion of your test. Again, this is similar to what we have done in class with tearing apart a poem and looking at how the parts make the whole and also create a theme. Remember that you will have an opportunity for a revision as a project grade. It would behoove you to write the best you can during the test so that you will not have to make as many corrections. I will use the TNReady Informational Rubric to grade your essays. We have a grading scale that reflects the levels of writing from the state that I will use to justify the grades. As you can see, we have a lot of work ahead of us. Don't fret! Remember that whatever I give you, multiple that by the number of students in class. I care about your learning, and I will not assign tasks that are not standards related or are busy work. Your time is valuable, and so is mine.

For homework tonight, you will need to complete lesson 23 #1-10 about infinitives. Read the description at the top of the sheet and underline what you think the infinitive is. Remember to fill out the homework questions about "Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?" by William Shakespeare. The questions should be about specific things you did not understand about this sonnet.
Over the weekend, take your green rubric from the TDOE and go over your essay. How would you grade yourself? Edit and revise this essay. Type it and have it ready for submission on January 15 by 9:30 am. Remember that if you do not have a computer, we will be in the library working on poetry projects. As soon as you are finished finding poems for your project and printing them off, you may type your essay and email it to or share it with me at [email protected].
